Why Use Biomass for Our Energy Needs

Why Use Biomass for Our Energy Needs

The last five years has seen a revolution in how governments, people and industry view energy. The positive aspects of biomass energy have come to the forefront in this discussion.
: The Pros

The primary positive aspect of biomass is it is part of the biocycle of life. This means it isnt toxic to the environment because it is more or less the environment. An additional benefit is the fact biomass almost always breaks down relatively quickly to its natural elements. This means a biomass fuel spill would be far less damaging than an oil spill, particularly in the long run.

The burning of biomass does kick out carbon dioxide among other gases. Carbon dioxide, of course, is a greenhouse gas. Proponents of biomass energy, however, argue that the gases produced are not really a problem because they are part of the current biocycle. By this, they are arguing that carbon dioxide is a natural element produced in nature and they are correct.

Fossil fuels, on the other hand, are outside of the natural biocycle in the world because they are buried in the ground, which effectively means they are not part of naturally occurring phases. As we dig and drill fossil fuels out of the ground, we are adding the harmful elements found in them to a system that cannot withstand the massive influx.

We already use many biomass fuels in our daily lives. The first cavemen used them to light fires for warmth, protection and cooking. Today, we use them to power our automobiles in the form of biodiesal and bioethanol. Whether you realize it or not, these two fuels have been going into our cars at gas stations since 1990 in parts of the country. The reason is they are used as additives in gasoline for the purpose of cutting harmful carbon dioxide emissions. In fact, federal law mandates their use in certain cities such as Los Angeles as well as in most government vehicles.

Carbon dioxide produced from vehicles makes up over a third of all the greenhouse gases produced in our country. Bioethanol made from corn cuts these emissions by over 20 percent compared to your basic gasoline. Biodiesel made from soybeans cuts emissions by as much as 80 percent. Any way you cut it, using biomass fuel is a step in the right direction.

Which Is Harder MAKING a Change or SUSTAINING the Change

Which Is Harder MAKING a Change or SUSTAINING the Change

Image source: http://img.picturequotes.com/2/488/487148/change-is-easy-to-propose-hard-to-implement-and-especially-hard-to-sustain-quote-1.jpg

My aunt and I had lunch the other day. We were discussing weight loss and I mentioned my fear of regaining the forty pounds I have worked so hard to lose when she said, Its easy to lose weight; the hard part is keeping it off.

In my many years as an addictions nurse, I have always said that the hardest thing to do is to GET clean to make the change and give up an addiction and that it is much EASIER to maintain the change by staying clean one day at a time.

So which is harder making a change or sustaining the change?

WHY IS CHANGE SO H.A.R.D.?

Making a change is H.A.R.D. because we have HABITS, ATTACHMENTS, RESISTANCE and we get DISCOURAGED. These are the ways in which our mind works to maintain the status quo and prevent change from occurring.

HABITS are how we can learn to drive or type and not have to focus our attention on the actual task any longer. This is how we are able to do more than one thing at a time like drive and listen to the radio or focus on where we are going rather than how to actually operate the car.

We are ATTACHED to people, places and things. When we make a change, everything else changes too. Relationships change. We must let go of how things were and we often struggle because we want things or other people to make the change too. It doesnt work that way. We want things to be different than reality actually is. And this causes us pain.

We feel loss and may experience mourning. We become fearful which causes us to experience anxiety, releasing adrenaline causing the fight, flight or freeze response. We freeze. RESISTANCE is fear. Resistance can show up as self-doubt, judgment or procrastination. We may make excuses and justify or rationalize that things should stay the same despite how damaging it is to our wellbeing.

Then, even when we do make an attempt to change, we get DISCOURAGED. We dont progress as quickly as we like. It takes too long. The old habits hold us back. We miss certain things. And we succumb to the ease of keeping things as is. We cannot sustain the attention required long enough to create new habits and produce the results we want.

This is why change is H.A.R.D.

But, with commitment and vision, a supportive community, a strong internal motivation and a positive belief in the possibility for success, by taking lots of baby steps and acknowledging your success along the way, you can and will change. Youve done it in the past.

Thats not so hard.

What makes SUSTAINING THE CHANGE hard is that we forget; we slip back into old habits; we stop being vigilant, we start revisiting the old stomping grounds. Before you know it, youve returned to your old ways. You regained the weight. You began smoking again. Youve picked up the drink or drug. And youre right back where you started.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE?

THE KEY TO SUCCESS is to never forget what is important to you. If you value being healthy and fit, then focus on that you can no longer eat like you used to. If you value being clean and sober, then you must live a clean and sober life every day. If you value your loving relationship, then you must nurture that by living in loving ways every day. What does this mean for you? Whatever your change, you must identify the KEY BEHAVIORS and ATTITUDES that are necessary to keep you on this new path.

COMMITMENT to change means you commit NOT ONLY to making the change but to sustaining the change. There is no such thing as accidental slips. There is a component missing from your change either you lack commitment to the new life or you have not yet adopted the characteristics required for success.

A yo-yo dieter has not yet committed to being thin. An addict who picks up again has not yet committed to a sober lifestyle. It doesnt mean you shouldnt keep trying; but focus on committing and on becoming a NEW PERSON. This new person is different than the OLD YOU. Your self-image much change as you do. Change does not only entail what you do but also who you become in the process. Someone who values health and fitness will not only lose weight but will maintain a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and activity that will sustain the change.

So which is harder: making the change or sustaining it? I guess it depends upon your perspective. People who are truly ready for change make it happen. Youve done it yourself and its been quite easy. Think about your life. Remember when you moved away from your parents or got married, decided to have kids or changed jobs when you really wanted to make this change? It was easy, right? And you had no trouble moving on and never looking back.

So why is it hard sometimes and not others?

Change is hard and sustaining it can be hard too; however, once you succeed at making a significant change, often you find that you are so committed to your new path there really is no looking back. Youve become a new person and the old person you were has essentially died. You are not that person anymore. You are not a smoker; youre a nonsmoker. Youre not obese; youre healthy and fit. Youre not single; youre in love and happily so. When you change your self-image and your personal identity, it becomes quite easy to sustain the change. You have a new life. Youre a new person. It was hard to get here.

Which is harder? Decide for yourself. Id love to hear your thoughts and stories of change. Send an email to Julie@JulieDonley.com.

What is a Morton's Neuroma

What is a Morton's Neuroma

Morton's neuroma is a very common and painful condition that affects the furthest end of the foot toward the toes. The pain is felt in the front of the foot and may extend to the toes. The word "neuroma" is misleading because the ending "-oma" is often thought of as a tumor. However, a Morton's neuroma is the result of excessive tissue formation around a nerve that forms due to nerve irritation from ligaments exerting pressure on the nerve. These ligaments compress the nerve, and the body's reaction to the compression is to form excess tissue. However, the excess tissue results in more irritation and compression to the nerve.

Signs and Symptoms: The pain from a Morton's neuroma is found on the ball of the foot usually between the 3rd and 4th toes to a lesser degree it is some time located between the 2nd and 3rd toes. The quality of the pain ranges from a burning/tingling pain to sharp/radiating pain. Most of the time the pain can be felt in the toes as well as the ball of the foot. Sometime, the pain is worse with walking, when the front of the foot pushes off the ground, and therefore increases pressure on the ball of the foot.

Diagnosis:
1. Physical Exam: The podiatrist will perform a series of test to determine whether the cause of the pain is being caused by a Morton's neuroma. One common exam is called a Mulder's Click. The podiatrist will apply pressure with his/her fingers to the top and bottom of the foot where the pain is found and squeeze the front of the foot at the same time. The podiatrist will be looking for a clicking sensation in the area. Producing this click could cause the irritated nerve to contact the ligament and recreate the symptoms. The term Tinel's Sign is used to describe the sensation of pain that radiates from the sight of the neuroma (in the ball of the foot) toward the toes.

2. Imaging: The podiatrist will request X-rays to rule out other irregularities that may cause pain to the area, such as a stress fracture or a cyst or bone spur. Since these masses are soft tissue an MRI or diagnostic ultrasound maybe utilized to visualize a neuroma.

Conservative Treatment:
1. Anti-inflammatory medicines such as Mortrin can decrease the inflammation caused by nerve irritation and therefore, may decrease symptoms. However, this will only work on the symptoms and will not change the neuroma.

2. Padding may be recommended to relieve the pressure off of the neuroma. There are pads that are places between the bones to separate them in order to stop the neuroma from being compressed. Padding may also be added to a shoe insert at the ball of the foot to relieve pressure as well.

3. Custom shoe inserts (Orthotics) can alleviate the symptoms of a neuroma. The custom shoe inserts can stabilize the bone structures and improve foot function to prevent nerve compression by the ligaments.

4. Shoe gear modification can be helpful in the reducing neuroma pain. Rocker-bottom shoes reduce the flexing of the toes, and thus reduce the degree of pressure to the ball of the foot where the neuroma is located. Avoiding high-heeled shoes and wearing shoes with a wide toe box increases the space for the foot. The decreased external compression from the shoes may help to reduce the pain from the neuroma.

5. Injection therapy with combination of steroids and local anesthetics may be used to relieve the pain and symptoms caused by the neuroma. Since frequent steroid injection may cause damage to the fat pad found on the bottom of the foot, these injections can only be used in limited quantities.

Surgical Treatment:
If the pain from the neuroma is intolerable and the conservative management has failed to help, there are surgical options. There are surgical procedures designed to remove the neuroma and the portion of the nerve that is causing pain. There is also a surgery to sever the ligament that crosses over the nerve. This technique is called nerve decompression. These procedures are performed in an out patient facility so that the patient can return home right after the surgery is finished. Following the surgery there is a chance that the neuroma may grow again. However, studies have shown that this is infrequent and occurs in one percent of patients undergoing neuroma removal. If the there is neuroma regrowth and the pain persists, additional surgery may be needed.

Hello, I am Dr. Grant Kruhly, Chiropractor, Nutritionist, Life Guide and Sensei of Japanese Sword and Meditation. Id like to briefly explain the comprehensive system of Health and Wellness care I offer to my patients. With these highly advanced healing systems, I have been very successful with patients suffering from conditions of: rotator cuff tears, tennis elbow, low back pain, disc degeneration, rheumatoid arthritis, influenza, irritable bowel syndrome, knee pain, neck pain, herniated discs, emotional stress, burn out, migraine headaches, tension headaches, ankle and foot problems, diabetes and poor digestion. My techniques are painless and in most cases permanent as I address the illness itself, not just its symptoms.

I would be honored if you would phone me right now to schedule your free thirty minute consultation. If you reach my answering machine, please leave me a short message and I will get back to you. Call 678-763-3903 for your free consultation.

My practice comprises four separate systems, each one complete and brought together synergistically to accomplish my primary mission: to empower my patient mentally, spiritually, structurally and metabolically. All four systems address the causes of distress, painful symptoms, disease and restriction. I practice two distinct, powerful Chiropractic systems, a transformative meditative system, and system-wide nutrition. I invite you to experience the effect of this care for yourself.

The primary Chiropractic Method I use is Network Spinal Analysis, which was developed by Dr. Donald Epstein. My entire delivery system is built upon the principles of Network. I was trained in Network by Dr. Lance Wright of Dallas and Dr. Jeff Brittain of Houston, with seminars by the founder, Dr. Epstein. Network Spinal Analysis is a very profound process oriented re-organizational system based on the quantum properties of oscillation, entrainment and the Bio-electric Energy Field. Using specific light contacts at Spinal Gateways (focal areas of free, unbound energy considered as interfaces between dimensions of tissue, energy and consciousness) to activate the higher brain centers, self-assessment begins to move the individual from stress physiology towards ease. The nervous system develops new, adaptive strategies that dissipate stress and process information so that greater synergy and inner coherence harmonizes all mental, emotional and physical states inducing total well-being.

The second Chiropractic Method is Neural Cranial Technique adapted from the Bio-Cranial Method developed in Scotland by Dr. Boyd in 1988. It is a brilliant method in that no osseous adjustment (cracking the neck) is used. Rather, the spinal cord itself is addressed at the Sphenoid boney attachment in the head. This is a powerful healing method which continues to work and unwind the spinal cord for 3 days. I finish all my sessions with a Neural Cranial to seal the session. It opens and expands the entire cranial vault, corrects any distortions of the 22 cranial bones and releases the fascia of the entire body. Then the innate intelligence of the individual will allocate its attention on whatever it feels is most important. For example, if someone had a sprained knee and a bleeding ulcer, innate intelligence will address the ulcer first. However, in a survival-based camping trip it may address the knee in order to have the mobility to survive until it can address the ulcer. The Neural Cranial Technique will address anything from a sore shoulder to irritable bowel syndrome.

My 3rd powerful method is the Heart Enhancement Meditation based on the original Heart Math of Dr. Childre. In every session (usually 30 minutes), I lead my patients through the Heart Enhancement Meditation to create an internal bio-electric field of intense love and internal coherence. Every 60 seconds, millions of new cells are born in your body. If they are born in a bio-field dominated by the frequencies of love and gratitude they then reflect that by opening receptor sites on the cell membrane connected to growth and repair. The reverse is also true; if they are born in a bio-field of stress physiology, defense, anger, or worry, all the growth/repair receptor sites close and other receptor sites open on the membrane for things like the stress hormone Cortisol which acts like an acid. Cortisol eats up muscle by at least 15 mechanisms, kills short-term memory cells, puts weight on the belly and shorts out the adrenal glands. When the body/minds bio-electric field is dominated by negative energy, the genes for cancer, heart disease, etc. may become activated. However, gene activation is an effect, not a cause. Gene expression is controlled by the bio-electric field. This Field organizes matter, never the other way around. That fact has been well established through research. With only five minutes of uninterrupted Heart Enhancement Meditation, the entire bio-electric field is raised to the frequency of love and gratitude. Research shows that the brain in the head entrains exactly to the Heart and the two branches of the nervous system (the sympathetic and parasympathetic) come into balance. That is POWER!!! From that state, Cortisol drops 40%, DHEA (growth hormone) rises 40%, and Secretory IgA, the first line of defense of the immune system rises as much as 41 to 240% with a sustained effect for up to 5 hours or more. Are you interested in anti-aging? Try this meditation for 5 minutes, 3 times per day.

So each thirty-minute office session follows this format: first, Network Spinal Analysis, which then flows into Heart Enhancement and once a bio-electric field is strongly achieved, I seal the healing with the Neural Cranial Technique. I have had tremendous results with all my patients. They feel so much better and can live their lives pain free.

The 4th method I use is System-Wide Nutrition from the powerful protocols of Dr. Bob Rakowski, a world-famous Nutritionist and Applied Kinesiologist. One of the 3 primary mentors to teach me my craft, Bob Rakowski is truly one of the greatest men I have ever known. He practices in Houston. System-Wide Nutrition means that you blanket the metabolism of the human body with everything it needs for growth, repair, energy and natural continuous detoxification. In todays world, especially in modern, industrial America, if you do not supplement your diet, you are putting yourself at risk of anything from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, etc. I always ensure that my patients have cellular/metabolic integrity gained through proper nutritional supplements because as people, we live and die on a cellular level. Given the decreased level of intrinsic nutrients in the foods, pesticides, genetic modification of crops and cloned animals, supplementation is critical.

Thus, through my training from true geniuses in healing, namely Dr. Donald Epstein, Dr. Robert Boyd, Dr. Doc Childre and Dr. Bob Rakowski, I have crafted a methodology that has been tempered through my own experience, research and vision. Each of the respective systems I have selected are supported by thorough research and clinical evidence. These systems move lives; the bones take care of themselves and disease and pain goes away. Please call now for your free, thirty-minute consultation or refer someone whom you love. It will be my honor to serve you, your family and your friends. I look forward to working together to improve your lives through healing.

Sincerely,

Video Conferencing Systems

Video Conferencing Systems

Business phone systems, VoIP phones and Video conferencing systems are very much in demand and are gaining a fast popularity because of the many benefits which they offer to organizations. The video conferences organized with the help of these systems are being chosen by organizations of all sizes as one of the best alternatives to one to one meeting, which is an expensive and time consuming issue. A video conference not only helps to cut down the traveling costs, but also saves time. However, certain precautions should be taken while conducting a video conference, so that it works out successfully and the goals of the organizations are achieved.

A video conferencing should be properly and strategically planned. This is the first and foremost requirement for ensuring the success of the video conference. While planning the conference, the following things should be checked and taken care of:

All the conferencing equipments, software and hardware needed for organizing the video conferencing should be pre-checked. Before the conference starts, preview and make the required adjustments to the images to be displayed during the conference. Adjust the cameras accurately so that images of all the participants present in the conference are in focus and can be clearly seen by the parties at the other ends of the conference. Correct positioning of the microphone and the speakers should be checked so that there are no hindrances in the communications. The IP addresses of the participants participating in the conference should be pre-checked.

There are certain other things, as well, which are needed to be taken care of while conducting a video conference. Although a video conferencing is not a physical meeting, which involves direct face to face meeting, yet one needs to be very punctual. This will help prevent wastage of time and get issues discussed and problems solved within time. Next, it should be ensured that a copy of the same data is distributed to all the participants of the conference. This will provide the same information to all the participants and help solve problems easily and prevent the arousal of any confusion.

The participants taking part in the video conference should be introduced to each other at the beginning itself. This will help the conference to continue smoothly. The participants should know how to use the Video conferencing systems and should speak clearly over the microphone and look directly into the camera. This will improve the quality of the conference and help achieve better results.

The participants should be instructed at the starting of the conference itself that they should not create any kind of noise during the conference, as it will cause hindrances in the communications. The mute button should be used in case of any noise so that the other participants are not disturbed.

Following and implementing the above mentioned tips, while organizing a video conference, can help an organization to achieve their goals and conduct a video conferencing more effectively and efficiently, with ease.

Using Hydro Excavation in Municipalities

Using Hydro Excavation in Municipalities

If you look at any given neighborhood, you will see only the human imprint that is left above ground. Houses, gardens, stores, trees, and other buildings are all easy to see at a glance. What you don't see is the incredible amount of infrastructure that is located underneath all of these buildings, under the streets which connect them, even under lawns and parkways.

The myriad connections of water pipes, underground cabling, and power lines create a complex pattern that is difficult to maneuver around when some work needs to be done. Hydro excavation minimizes the amount of digging that is needed on any given project, by channeling a refined stream of water only on the areas that need to be excavated. This can come in very useful in several situations that may come up in municipalities.

Digging in green areas

All municipalities value their green space, but in many cases the areas under parks are just as crowded as those under industrial areas. The continuous nature of piping and wiring means that lines linking areas are present, even when no above ground infrastructure is visible.

When this infrastructure needs to be exposed for repairs, updates, or readings, traditional excavations can leave deep, gaping holes in the earth. Digging may also damage the root systems of trees in the area, causing a loss of aesthetics and also a physical hazard if the tree should die. Hydro excavation will do much less damage to the aesthetics of any green space when holes are needed.

Under buildings

Using machines or digging by hand poses a big problem when the area under question is actually located underneath a building; namely, the building must be destroyed or at the very least the basement torn out in order to dig. With hydro excavation, however, there is no need to undo the construction of a building, as all that is needed is one small exposure hole to accomplish the task. The hydro option is therefore very suitable to residential areas of municipalities as well as businesses.

Sensitive areas

Perhaps one of the greatest advantages of hydro excavation is the ability to dig in areas that otherwise would be impossible for machinery, or tediously (and expensively!) slow to dig out by hand. When the required pole installation is too near the gas line, for example, hydro excavation is carried out through the use of an extendable hose attached to a vacuum truck. This process can be undertaken in many hard to reach areas.

Finally, the very best reasons to use hydro excavation in municipalities are benefits such as less interruption of services and continuity of landscapes. Those big gaping holes in the middle of streets are an eyesore, cause traffic problems, and often result in damaged utilities, affecting household services. Hydro excavation cuts this hassle out of the picture, resulting in much more efficient digging for both citizens and local governments.

Use an Iphone VPN for Email

Use an Iphone VPN for Email

Email is an insecure communication method, which may surprise you. Since you are only as secure as your email, protecting your email with an iPhone VPNshould be a top priority. Your email contains all of your sensitive data. All of the accounts you signed up for, your usernames and even passwords reside in your email.

A hacker probably has all he/she needs to access your accounts if they can access your email. Even messages that you delete may be sitting on a server halfway around the world, in perpetuity. Thats where an iPhone VPN comes in.

Email Risks
Eavesdropping
False Messages
Identity Theft
Invasion of Privacy
Message Modification
Message Replay
Unprotected Backups

How Email Works
Most email is sent with Outlook or Thunderbird (email client program) or Yahoo or Gmail (web-based application). Mail is then sent to a server, an electronic version of a brick and mortar post office. Email for sending generally uses SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) across Internet Protocol (IP) networks. For retrieving emails, the protocols are called the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) and Post Office Protocol (POP).

When the server receives an email message, it checks for a valid address for the message recipient so it knows where to relay the message to. If the address is valid, but the server is busy, the email server will try the backup servers or keep trying to send the email for several days. Some servers are third-party servers, meaning they do not belong to either the sender or the recipient. The metadata for each email will show the hops or the journey that the email travelled from server to server.

Email insecurity is due to the pathways in sending and receiving. If you are using http:// and NOT https://, then your email is insecure. If you are using a public hotspot/Wi-Fi, your email is still insecure. SMTP, POP and IMAP protocols do not encrypt messages. Your messages and possibly your username and passwords are sent and received in plain text for anyone to read. In addition, your plain text messages are stored in servers and may be backed up and saved indefinitely.

The iPhone VPN
The iPhone connects to servers for access to corporate and personal email. Users who employ an iPhone VPN have hardware based encryption and authentication plus the security of SSL. Connecting is easy at the office or on the road by signing up with an iPhone VPN service provider.Configuration of the iPhone VPN interface is simple and fast. This layered approach to email combines hardware protection and network security.

With an iPhone VPN you can interact with your company's network or your personal email and have secure access via Exchange ActiveSync, IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV, IPSec as well as SSL VPN.These types of protocols often have certificate-based authentication.Communications back and forth from the server are secure and data stays safe with an iPhone VPN.

Uploading Images To Websites

There are some basics that any webmaster who wishes to be successful as an online entrepreneur must strive to know. This includes basic html, utilization of some tools especially those for designing and amending or updating websites, uploading web pages from computer system to host server and generally updating your website and blog.

The specific topic for this article is "Uploading Images To Website" which falls within the broad framework specified above. Reference here is to HTML websites.

Uploading Images To Website

This broadly speaking, can occur in two ways:

Uploading Images To Website, With Uploaded Images On Your Web Host Server.

Simply upload the image you want unto your server using an FTP Client such as File Zilla to have it displayed on a page on your website, from your server. This web page houses only the image. You then insert the image location (i.e. web page url) generated into the tool you use to design/amend or update your website e.g. kompozer ( how to use will be explained in another article) and save unto any particular web page within your computer system. This web page could already contain text or other images if you so desire. This web page will then be uploaded via an FTP Client such as File Zilla or similar tool, to have the image - now on a desired web page of your website, displayed.

Detailed Procedure:

Right click and "save image as" onto your computer system, perhaps into "My pictures" folder. Better to start taking SEO into consideration from the outset by naming the picture/image with a targeted keyword.

Now use a tool for updating your website (linking your computer system to your server) such as File Zilla client (how to use will be explained in another article) to upload the image from your system unto a particular file of your website on your host's server, in a suitably defined directory such as images.

Since an image is in most cases needed to be inserted in another web page, within text or other images and not solely for use on its own generated web page, take the generated image location url and insert into the space in "image insertion interface column 1" of kompozer. Also insert an appropriate keyword in the "alternate text" space.

Adjust the actual image dimension to your desired custom dimension in "image insertion interface column 2" of kompozer.

Adjust the appearance of the image within the web page as desired and insert a solid border if you so desire in the space in the "image insertion interface column 3" of kompozer.

Redirect the visitor to any particular web page of your choice when he clicks on the image, by inserting the url of your desired web page in the space in "image insertion interface column 4" of kompozer.

Save on the web page desired in your computer system and upload the web page onto your server/website using the FTP Client, File Zilla.

Voila! Your image is sitting pretty on your chosen web page with your host server.

Uploading Images To Website With Uploaded Images Not On Your Web Host Server.

Insert the image location (image web page url) for the desired image from any location on another server such as affiliates' principal's website into the tool you use for generating/amending or updating your website e.g. kompozer, following steps 1 to 4 above and save this on your desired web page on your computer system.

Continue with the procedure indicated for "Uploading Images To Website, With Uploaded Images On Your Web Host Server" above, to upload the web page with an FTP client - File Zilla, unto your website at your host server.

The only difference in this case is that you did not generate the web page url the image is located at and your host server is not hosting the image web page, but rather linking to the web page it is currently hosted at. Your host server is however hosting the web page (including text and/or other images) in which you then insert the image.

In another article, i shall explain the pros and cons of using each method highlighted above.

Understanding the Many Functions of the SAS 70 Report

Understanding the Many Functions of the SAS 70 Report

Image source: https://image.slidesharecdn.com/oneneckarticle20130124axmanagement-shouldanoutsourcercompleteassae16typeiiaudit-130316053113-phpapp02/95/ax-management-should-an-outsourcer-complete-a-ssae-16-type-ii-audit-3-638.jpg?cb=1363412035

Also known as SAS 70, Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70: Service Organizations focuses on the professional standards related to the assessment of the organizations' internal controls. Service organizations are groups that offer outsourcing services that have great influences on the customers' control environment. These organizations include trust companies, application service providers, hosted data centers as well as medical and insurance claim processors.

SAS 70 has two types, namely the type I and the type II. The first type covers the opinion of auditors on the design of the control environment developed and implemented by the organizations. The second type covers the opinion of auditors on the efficiency of the internal control's design. To know more about these auditing standards, let us have a closer look at SAS 70 changing uses as well as users.

Changing Uses

In the late 1990s, the auditing standards have been used by auditors as well as service organizations in non traditional methods. One of the modifications is the special requirement for financial services companies to get a review of SAS 70 in order to satisfy the requirements for the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Another modification is the legality of requests from clients to let a third party assess the internal controls of organizations that offer services to healthcare firms.

Users of Audit Reports That Follow the Standards

The reports are commonly used to establish formal communication among auditors. In addition to this, these are also used to get an understanding of the service organization's internal controls. Above all, the reports are used by service providers to forecast and evaluate the risks associated with the internal control model developed and implemented by a particular organization.

Even if the reports are implemented by Certified Public Accountant (also known as CPA) firms, service organizations have control over the distribution of the reports. However, the reports can only be distributed to the third party that conducted the assessment. These are commonly restricted to the management, customers as well as financial statement auditors of the service organizations.

Frequency of Auditing

Service organizations should know the frequency of the internal control assessments conducted by auditors. Type I and type II SAS 70 reports are usually conducted once a year. Among these types, it is the second type of reports which is required by the government based on the development and implementation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. The organizations decide which of the two types of reports they conduct, but most organizations prefer to have the second type of audit report.

Differences Between the Two Types of Audit Reports

The first type focuses on the fairness of internal control design implemented by the organizations based on the control objectives that the groups conceptualized. The first type do not have important value to clients. This is only valuable or significant to the organizations. The second type the effectiveness of the internal control objectives created by the organizations. Clients and third parties are important to the creation of the type II audit reports since they need to verify if the results of the assessments conducted by auditors are substantial, valid and reliable.

Two Ways Too Much Technology Can Be Bad For Your Health

Two Ways Too Much Technology Can Be Bad For Your Health

Technology has proved to be an invaluable asset in the field of mental health. We have the internet which allows easy access to information on symptoms and disorders such as depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder. We have EEG machines which allow us to physically change brain waves reducing symptomology and we have cell phone apps that allow us to track our moods and symptoms to better understand their etiology. With all these wonderful uses for technology, its hard to imagine that they could have a negative side too.

Today everyone is constantly plugged in. We have laptops, smart-phones, ipads, ipods, work computers, television, TiVo for on demand watching, and redbox on every corner. This constant need to be preoccupied with electronic toys is resulting in the break down of our communities, and it is likely a strong variable in the ADHD epidemic that seems to be overtaking our society. It seems that excessive use of technology can be harmful to our extended social support systems, and our cognitive development.

Even though many people will argue that technology helps them keep in touch with loved ones easier, there still seems to be a break down in communities. Yes, you can email your family often and text your daughter to see if she is home from school all while you are sitting in a meeting at work. But this is your immediate social support system. Your community is comprised of individuals that live in your town and is an important extension. Your relations within your community are extended social support. However, it seems like there has been a gradual breakdown of interest in developing relationships with neighbors, or those you see on the streets everyday. How many people take the time to get to know their neighbors when they move into a new place? I admit to being guilty of this at times, and often wonder what it was like for my grandparents who lived in their house for close to 40 years, raising their children with those on the street and knowing that no matter what they could rely on those living close by if something were to happen. If their child broke his arm falling from a tree a neighbor would help, or if an adolescent was falling in with the wrong crowd a neighbor would tell his parents.

Last month in San Francisco, a killer walked onto a crowded train. The passengers were so involved in their smart-phones and ipods that no one saw him take out his gun and wave it around. In fact he did this about 4 or 5 times, randomly aiming at individuals as he randomly chose his target. No one noticed until he fired a round into the back of a university student, killing him. They were so consumed with technology and completely detached from their environment they didnt notice. The police had to review the train security footage for an accurate account of what happened.
Does this sound like a horrific but isolated incident? Anyone remember watching the viral video of a woman in the mall who was so engrossed in her texting that she walked right into the fountain and fell in? Has your state started a campaign to stop texting and driving because of the high rate of accidents which resulted from people being distracted? It seems like the constant use of technology has some serious down sides.

Besides effecting our relationships and social support systems, the constant use of technology has led to changes in our cognitive development. Everyone can think of a time they were staring at the microwave wondering when the food was going to be done already! It seems we have grown accustom to constantly being entertained, preoccupied, or on the go while multitasking. I have often thought that this constant need to be stimulated may play a role in the soaring number of individuals being seen for problems with attention.

Years ago, kids played with simple toys which were often homemade. Lincoln logs were considered great presents, and if the weather was nice you were outside reinventing some fantasy role you and your brothers have played hundreds of times. Kids needed to entertain themselves and they used their imaginations, they pondered, and they were accustomed to being bored. These types of activities helped them develop their attention. They could sit for hours playing quietly, they could focus on the task at hand, and they spent time entertaining themselves by using their minds and imaginations.

Today, children are placed in front of the television at an early age and grow up with the luxury of constant entertainment. The thought of being bored is unthinkable, and often tantrums ensue to protest moms request that they put their iphone away for dinner. Children who are accustom to constant entertainment never had a need to develop their attention, and as a result dont. This can lead to children and adults seeking medications that they otherwise would never have needed.

The good news is that technology has also been developed to help individuals develop their attention through neurofeedback therapy. This type of therapy is a holistic approach to treating ADHD (and many other disorders) by using a feedback loop to change brainwaves and help the individual focus better, ultimately improving their attention. The technology for this type of therapy has been around for years, but is just recently becoming more of a mainstream therapeutic approach.

Overall, I want to say I am not anti-technology. Technology has some wonderful uses and can be beneficial in countless ways. However, when I read the news article about how technology distracted those individuals on the train, oblivious of their surrounding and safety, I was shocked. Even if no one had been willing to be a hero and save the life of the innocent university student, I was surprised at how unaware they were for their own safety. No one seemed to notice the gun wielding killer on the train. I began to think about the long term effects this problem can have on the mental health of individuals, and how technology has played a role in the increased number of ADHD patients that are seen.

Technology is a great tool to make life easier and improve our quality of living , but everything needs to be in moderation. Find a balance in your life, take time to unplug every once in a while, and remember to step out of the virtual world and enjoy the real one that surrounds you everyday.

True or False Belief Systems

True or False Belief Systems

Quote: We learned to follow many belief systems programmed from youth. It is time to embrace change and re-create a new system based upon your own truth."

Each one of us can identify with a certain set of beliefs passed down from generations. Beliefs can hold us back from creating greatness due to false limitations. Our minds are computerized programs set in our ways. We behave like robots imitating the influences of society. If you are unhappy in your life, change what you see. Change will only happen when you choose to plant seeds of peace, love, happiness and prosperity.

We define our belief systems as the core values to who we really are. Do you value life as an open door of opportunity or wonder why life tends to be so hard? Get out of the imprisonment of the mind you tend to fall victim too. You are the only individual responsible for finding your own truth. Truth lives in the essence of our being. Think for yourself and trust in what you believe in. The heart of intuition will send answers to what you are feeling. Get a hold and control your limited thinking. Let the heart help you reach a life of fulfillment. First, you must acknowledge, accept and understand your emotions. God blessed us with all possibilities. We choose to limit our minds for whatever reasons. Change the inner critic within your minds and create a new beginning without the lies. The inner critic can fear the minute you want to try something new. Show compassion and the inner critic will listen to you. As adults, we continue to struggle with negative thoughts and emotions learned from what our parents taught. Free your mind from the traffic of negative habits and open up to a new world without the panic. Be determined and see your life outside of false belief systems holding you in bondage instead of granting the mind true freedom. Do you feel stuck in life and cannot move forward? Step out of your comfort zone and try something awkward. Awkwardness can open up your mind to a new sense of awareness. Face your fears and be willing to take chances. Your childhood wounds reside in the memory bank of the subconscious mind. You can consciously learn to reprogram the mind at any time. We need to confront the problems left behind because they reside in the back of our minds where they continue to hide. Our past environments might have created habits and behaviors of who we are today. God says if you learn to believe in you then, Let me pave the way. Our memories bind us to the past unless we let go and learn to give the present a chance. Bring to light and reveal your own truth. To be a winner, learn to make positive choices that are right for you. Your new belief systems stems from the root. The root of being is where you will find the truth. Change your way of thinking if you are seeking happiness. We travel down the road to The Different Levels of Consciousness.

Touchless Technology Helps Keep Your Restrooms Clean and Healthy

Touchless Technology Helps Keep Your Restrooms Clean and Healthy

Image source: http://designmoi.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Kohler-Touchless-Toilet-Best-Rated-Toilets-Just-Hold-Your-Hand-Over-The-Tank-To-Flush.jpg

Are you tired of cleaning grimy fingerprints off restroom faucets and soap dispensers? Indeed. One of the major sources of customer complaints is restroom cleanliness. The reasons for this go beyond the abilities of your cleaning staff. The more traffic a building gets the harder it is to keep high cleaning standards, especially if you are cleaning the building only once or twice a week. Restrooms can have problems with odors, general appearance, empty dispensers, leaky soap dispensers and wads of paper towels stacked up on the floor. Besides not looking clean, this leads to a perception that the restroom is not sanitary. Installing touchless dispensers can help to control these problems.

Touchfree technology not only helps keep restrooms clean, but also helps to reduce the spread of germs and cuts down on your staff's cleaning time. Using touchfree soap dispensers, water faucets, toilet paper, and paper towel dispensers, restroom visitors do not have to touch handles, buttons or levers. The fewer the objects visitors' hands touch, the less dirt and grime your staff will have to clean off fixtures.

You may think of a touchless system as expensive because it's controlled by a sensor. But touchless systems do not have to be complicated or expensive. There are toilet paper systems that hold individual interleaved sheets of paper. The user easily takes the sheets they need and do no have to "fish around" the inside of a potentially dirty dispenser looking for the end of the toilet paper roll. This provides a much cleaner and more sanitary system than the traditional toilet paper roll dispensers. Another low-cost hygienic choice is a folded towel dispensing system. Towels are dispensed one-at-a-time and restroom visitors only touch the towel they need.

The more high tech type systems are sensor activated. These are devices that flush toilets, turn on water faucets, dispense hand soap, and dispense paper towels. No touch technology is extremely important with paper towel dispensers as towels are used after hands are clean.

When deciding on a touchless paper towel dispenser, keep the following in mind:

- Power source. Most paper towel dispensers work off battery power. Look for dispensers that run off normal D-cell batteries as opposed to ones that need a special and expensive battery packs. Those special battery packs may not be available locally and have to be ordered - which will be a problem if the batteries die unexpectedly.

- There are several different types of dispensing components. Several studies have shown that users prefer a system where the dispenser is triggered when hands are placed directly under the dispenser.

- Refilling. As with any dispenser, the easier it is to refill, the quicker your cleaning crew can get the job done and move on to other tasks. Avoid using dispensers that need threading the towels through a series of rollers.

To minimize the items a visitor has to touch, many buildings are now installing automatic toilet flushing mechanisms. These allow toilets and urinals to flush automatically after use. Some systems are even designed to flush periodically when not in use to keep fresh water in the bowl at all times. To help minimize bacteria and reduce odors, consider adding an automatic disinfectant dispensing system.

Installing touchless soap dispensers and automatic water faucets cuts down on what visitors' touch and saves on soap and water use. If the restroom is heavily used, be sure to order soap dispensers that are large enough so frequent refills are not necessary.

Restroom cleaning in itself can be very labor-intensive - from wiping down counters to scrubbing toilets, it requires a big time commitment. There now touchless cleaning products that can save you time and money. These systems are designed to allow your staff to clean without having to touch any surface in the restroom with their hands.

One type of system includes a cleaning cart, bucket and series of extension handles with specialized mop heads and attachments. The cart itself includes storage space for cleaning supplies and paper products.

Steam and vapor cleaning is also growing in popularity. The steam cleaning system uses a tank that superheats water as opposed to using chemicals. The steam is applied to dirty areas through a special wand and an applicator, which includes an attachment for cleaning towels. To use the equipment the operator "wipes" all surfaces with the superheated water and changes the cleaning towel as it becomes soiled.

Another alternative to use in restroom cleaning is the microfiber mopping system. This is a self-contained system. It cleans faster and more efficiently than a traditional bucket and mop. For restroom cleaning, the microfiber is a more hygienic as the mop water is not reused.

Public restroom users are concerned about how clean and sanitary restrooms are. Using touchless dispensers not only helps to control the spread of germs, they help to conserve water, soap and paper towels, and provide the convenience of requiring less action from the user to get the job done. Touchless dispensers also help to keep cleaning costs down as your staff will spend less time cleaning the restroom and refilling dispensers. Less time spent cleaning restrooms means more profit for your cleaning business!

Time-Out For Autistic Behaviors

Time-Out For Autistic Behaviors

Time-out usually works for most specific behaviors that are unacceptable in children with autism. Many parents, teachers, caregivers agree, that putting a child with autism in a time-out zone, is usually effective to curb their intolerable behavior.

How long should one keep their child in a time-out zone? Experts and parents have found that the average time for the child with autism, depending on the severity of the behavior that was initiated, it is wise not to keep the child in a time-out zone for more than about five to ten minutes.

When one decides it is necessary to reduce the unacceptable behavior, it is imperative that the time-out zone, is clear and empty of toys, television, games, people and anything the child likes, which includes, parents, teachers, family members and caregivers, who are advised to ignore the child that is placed in the time-out zone.

If the child continues to resume the behavior that was to be halted, another time-out might be necessary, so the individual will understand that he/she, will not continue with the behavior that is intolerable.

If the young person starts to cry, kick, act-out in any other way, it might be wise to extend the time-out to a longer period of time. That also depends on the level of the child who has autism.

One thing to keep in mind and be aware of, is the time-out behavior management does not always work or is successful for every child with autism. There are many autistic children who enjoy being alone in a room, with no toys, television, digital video discs or videos, games and books. For those individuals, to correct or halt their behavior and have them enter a time-out zone, will probably not reduce the unacceptable behavior.

It is important to know and try to understand the needs of the child with autism and how they react to time-out. Parents may want to take into consideration and try other behavior management, if the time-out is not being successful.

It is imperative for all who are in charge of the child at different times of the day, that they are familiar with the various behaviors the child with autism might have. For example, temper tantrums, anger outbursts, kicking, biting, throwing objects, running out of the room into the street, and not following instructions.

Parents may want to take into consideration, if the time-out zone is usually the same area, and the child is not responding to the time-out, for the behavior that is to be reduced or stopped, it might be wise to change the time-out zone to a different area, that is also safe.

Every child is completely different and unique. What might work for one child with autism for behavior management, might not work for the other. It takes patience and consistency to be in aware of what works best for behavior management with an individual with autism. Never give up.

This is science and its beautiful

This is science and its beautiful

Im breaking a little protocol today and talking about my research over the past two years. I started this venture around the beginning of January of 2015, sounds benign enough but actually I had a very close friend, who had recently lost a relative to which they thought was under suspicious circumstances.

A situation that for all intents and purposes, might rise to a dime store mystery novel. (no joke!) if I was inclined with the skill to write such things, I probably really would, anyway, without getting into the personal particulars of it all, there was a "white powdery" substance in a bottle that should not have been in thereyeah, getting it now? This friend asked me if there was anyway to find out what it was and I said yeah you can take it and get it analyzed, itll cost some money but it can be done.

For whatever reason, that route was unacceptable and I wasnt going to push it so, I said give some time and Ill see what I can do. Having an engineering and chemistry background helps in matters of the scientific persuasion so, I figured I could maybe buy a spectrometer and do the job myself, ha ha ha, yeah right! Im retired, not rich, turns out though, I came across a website called PublicLab where you can learn how to investigate environmental concerns and use inexpensive DIY spectrometers and techniques. So thats where I bought my first spectrometer kit. Only problem was that, I didnt realize the scope and magnitude that was about to unfold before me.

The adventure was on though and I was hook-line and sinkered in! Even with all my research, upgrades and intense experimentation, I could only at best (and only with 60 percent probability,) determine what the original "white powdery" substance was, which for privacys sake I will not disclose here, my friend though, was so very grateful that I did try, and I was glad I did also. What a grand learning experience that was and still is, and from that is where the inspiration for the DAV5 V3.01 Raman spectrometer has come from.

Even as Im writing this, I think of the times of frustration and disappointment, mainly at myself, wanting to just give it up, "man why a I doing all this?" 12 15 hour days, and for what? I keep forgetting procedures, the order of things, ect., why? well having a stroke several years earlier didnt do me any favors. So I developed a system of log books and these logs corresponded to files saved on my computer as a back up. I had to literally annotate just about every little thing I was doing, I have a short term memory problem, but as long as I have a log of my previous actions I can recall it pretty well.

I have now over 1000 pages of notes and research, each page has its own tab with a short description of that page, and its worked out very well. So this is the adversity I must on a daily basis overcome, and I do it because I believe what Im doing is significant on many levels, one being, the story I started at the beginning. I started to come to the realization just how expensive and far out of reach this technology really is, not just to your average citizen scientist or serious hobbyist, but to people I was coming in contact with everyday over on Hackaday.com.

I was interacting with brilliant individuals from Columbia, Slovakia, Chezania, and many others, all building incredible devices, with specific purposes in mind. Most of them out of sheer necessity, hey, when you are unable to afford a top of the line up to date piece of technology, your only choice isto make it!

This is the "hook" the inner beauty of all this, yeah I mix some philosophical connotation to all this but its the truth, at least as I am starting to understand it. This is why my project is not only important to me, but to many others as well, check this these stats out, they are the average cost of the "lower priced" Raman spectrometers that are available out there:

Raman laser compare chart 2

Ok lets digest this a little, these are the "top" 5 lower priced Raman specrometers (and if you can just bear with me, the next segment is why Raman spectroscopy is so vital in our every day lives,) you see the price ranges no? Imagine my friend in Colombia wanting to do vital research in molecular biology or genetics, with an average monthly salary of $692 (47% of the worldwide average) ranked 54 out of 72 countries on the global pay scale, one position higher than Ukraine ($686) and one position lower than Bulgaria ($750).Apr 13, 2012.

Well I think you can start to get the idea here, now imagine my project and its benefits:

Raman project BOM july 17

DAV5 V3.01 Raman Spectrometer, total cost $657.35

Big difference huh? This is the core principle, the vision I have for this project, and the best part is that it is becoming a reality, a testament I would say to at least me not giving up on it. This truly is my mission statement, I felt like I had to have one in order to stay focused and on point, it helped. Now Im going to get into the details the why and hows of all this and how this really impacts our lives without anyone really ever thinking about it.

What Raman spectroscopy is, the measurement of the wavelength and intensity of inelastically (lacking flexability,) of scattered light in molecules. Raman scattered light occurs at wavelengths that are shifted from the incident light by energies of molecular vibrations.

Important term #2 to remember, "molecular vibrations," these vibrations have a specific and non-changing frequency, their strengths are characterized in terms of "degrees," example;

M, moderately strong
M-S, moderate to strong
M-VS, moderate to very strong
S, strong
VS, very strong
VW, very weak
W, weak
W-M, weak to moderately strong
W-VS, weak to very strong
The math behind these forces are;

R = < X | a | X >
where X and X are the initial and final states, respectively, and a is the polarizability of the molecule:

a = a + (r-r)(da/dr) + higher terms
where r is the distance between atoms and a is the polarizability at the equilibrium bond length, r. Polarizability can be defined as the ease of which an electron cloud can be distorted by an external electric field. Since a is a constant and < X | a | X > = 0, R simplifies to;

R = < X | (r-r)(da/dr) | X >
The result is that there must be a change in polarizability during the vibration for that vibration to inelastically scatter radiation.

The poloarizability depends on how tightly the electrons are bound to the nuclei. In the symmetric stretch the strength of electron binding is different between the minimum and maximum internuclear distances. Therefore the polarizability changes during the vibration and this vibrational mode scatters Raman light (the vibration is Raman active).

In asymmetric stretch the electrons are more easily polarized in the bond that expands but are less easily polarized in the bond that compresses. There is no over all change in polarizability and the asymmetric stretch is Raman inactive.

Raman line intensities are proportional to:

v (v) | exp(-E|kT)C
Where v is the frequency of the incident radiation. (v) is the Raman cross section, typically;

10 cm
I is the radiation intensity, exp(-E|kT) is the Boltzman factor for state i, and C is the analyte concentration.

Whew, now that was cryptic wasnt it! That is the techy "basic" principle of Raman spectroscopy, how can such a seemingly obscure discipline be so important in our everyday lives

It can be used to rapidly characterize the chemical composition and structure of a sample, whether solid, liquid, gas, gel, slurry or powder.
Compound distribution in tablets
Blend uniformity
High throughput screening
API (air pollution index) concentration
Powder content and purity
Raw material verification
Polymorphic forms
Crystallinity
Contaminant identification
Combinatorial chemistry
In vivo analysis and skin depth profiling
You see the potential? Its like a ripple effect, propagating its way through all other disciplines of science. Another example, which in my opinion is the best, is what Raman is all about; The "finger print," just like in a "CSI" weekly episode.

Fingerprint-720x480-article-image This should look familiar, a human fingerprint begin scanned apparently on a finger print reader.

sn-fingerprints_1 forensics 4

Now this is the same print but analyzed under different protocols, and scientific techniques, the same premise applies to Raman, everything no mater if it is liquid, gas or a solid has a unique inner molecular signature that can be characterized and quantified.

Abstract
"Cancers are often impossible to visually distinguish from normal tissue. This is critical for brain cancer where residual invasive cancer cells frequently remain after surgery, leading to disease recurrence and a negative impact on overall survival. No preoperative or intraoperative technology exists to identify all cancer cells that have invaded normal brain. To address this problem, we developed a handheld contact Raman spectroscopy probe technique for live, local detection of cancer cells in the human brain. Using this probe intraoperatively, we were able to accurately differentiate normal brain from dense cancer and normal brain invaded by cancer cells, with a sensitivity of 93% and a specificity of 91%. This Raman-based probe enabled detection of the previously undetectable diffusely invasive brain cancer cells at cellular resolution in patients with grade 2 to 4 gliomas. This intraoperative technology may therefore be able to classify cell populations in real time, making it an ideal guide for surgical resection and decision-making."

This came from an article @ Science Translational Medicine 1 Feb 2015.

The advancements just keep on coming, see where this is all leading? The final 2 examples are going to tie up my points very nicely and then we will discuss the conclusions arrived at by all this:

Fig4.1.8 gutenberg bible pic2

This is a page from the Gutenberg Bible (original one at that!) This was accomplished using a variation of ATR (Attenuated total reflection,) is a sampling technique used in conjunction with infrared spectroscopy which enables samples to be examined directly in the solid or liquid state without further preparation.

Characterization of Mummified Tissues

In this work, the authors examined whether NIR-FT-Raman spectroscopy could be employed to determine to what extent human remains have been preserved, which have been subjected to artificial mummification. In addition, the purpose was to shed light on the methods and complex mummification techniques used by ancient Egyptians. Raman microscopic studies of human skin from the XIIth dynasty mummy, Nekht-Ankh, ca. 2100 BC, from the Tomb of the Two Brothers (Khnum-Nakht and Nekht-Ankh) from Rifeh in Middle Egypt (Fig. 4.1.9), excavated from a hot desert environment, was carried out. The mummies were embalmed by natron, which absorbs water and is also mildly antiseptic, in the way used by ancient Egyptians.

Kind of errie huh? Just look at the data below:

Fig4.1.10 mummified tissue 3

The amide I and III protein Raman bands were used to monitor the presence of proteins and to give an idea about the secondary protein structure. The lipids and proteins seemed well preserved, although different degrees of protein deterioration were observed. In some spots, protein degradation was extensive. Some sites showed very well preserved protein secondary structures with both helical and sheet contents, associated protein modes at 1660, 1450, and 1240 cm-1 (Fig. 4.1.10) indicating that the artificial mummification process had a positive effect although no embalming chemicals were left in those spots. Of significant interest is that the presence of residual chemicals in the skin tissues (Na2SO4 from the natron desiccant used in the mummification process), is correlated with the presence of the most degraded organic tissue and hence the most poorly preserved skin structure (Figs. 4.1.11, 4.1.10 and 4.1.11 with permission of J. Raman Spectrosc. 34 (2003) 375).

So to bring us back around home, yes these techniques are very precise and require an extensive working knowledge, I learned it in two years, and I had never done this before, just having the aptitude and desire helped me achieve my results so far.

The prevailing goal of this project is in removing the mysteries surrounding this type of science and sciences akin to it, providing an easier and more accessible gateway for developing counties to continue along a path of greater technological progress. This can certainly be achieved through free educational pathways like my website and this projects ideals, yeah sounds lofty I know, but Im actually doing it, Im making the connections, the interpersonal ones that matter, like the examples I talked about in the beginning of this article.

Its now just a matter of putting the pieces of this project together, testing and calibrating and then releasing all of my data, its beautiful to me, and I do it all for free. I took it upon myself to just do it, I was going to do one thing in my life that made a difference, big or small, but it was going to make that difference.

The Spooky History Of Halloween

The Spooky History Of Halloween

Interesting facts about Halloween Halloween is a popular celebration, celebrated in Autumn in the northern hemisphere and spring in the southern hemisphere. Wearing scary costumes, carving pumpkins, trick-or-treating and Halloween-themed decorating are all fun traditions partaken on the day. But, how did Halloween came to life? When did this kind of celebration start?
The custom of celebrating Halloween started back in the days when the ancient Celts were roaming Britain and other areas in Europe. It was first known as Samhain (meaning Summers End) and was celebrated at the end of the summer, a time of year when the Celts believed that the line between the real world and the world of ghosts and spirits got significantly thinner. When this happened, the ancient Celts thought that the creatures of the other world, which possessed all sorts of strange powers, had the chance to walk into our world. The Celts would blacken their faces and dress up in white costumes to trick their dead ancestors into thinking they were also spirits, allowing them some level of safety on the night when the dead returned.

From the Celts, the holiday passed to the Christians, bearing the name of All Hallows Eve, which was the day celebrated before the 1st of November, before All Saints Day. Even though the ancient Celtic holiday got governed by a different religion, the power of spirits still existed in peoples minds and they were both respected and feared. In order to protect themselves and their livestock and gain benevolence from the spirits, people used to offer them food, drink, and even portions of their crops. It was believed that the spirits of people that passed away returned to their homes, in search of hospitality so extra places were set at the table and by the fire, making the spirits feel welcome once they returned.

The carved pumpkin became a symbol of Halloween, although it wasnt the first vegetable used during this celebration - in Scotland and Ireland turnips were carved. The North American immigrants introduced the pumpkin as it was much larger, softer and generally easier to carve figures and lanterns. The first recordings of pumpkin carvings in America date back to 1973 and it was initially associated with the period of the harvest and not with Halloween. The first association between Halloween and the carved pumpkin happened during the 19th century.

Another favourite Halloween custom trick-or-treating began in the Middle Ages where both children and adults would dress up and go begging door to door for food in exchange for songs and prayers. A popular song they would use is: A soul! a soul! a soul-cake! Please good Missis, a soul-cake! An apple, a pear, a plum, or a cherry, Any good thing to make us all merry. One for Peter, two for Paul Three for Him who made us all.

The trick part of trick-or-treating began when children, who were dressed in disguise, saw an opportunity to extort money and treats through fear of reprise. But, as one newspaper reported in 1927, the acts were nothing more than strenuous fun with just a few missing wagon wheels and barrels which were later recovered in the streets outside.

Today, Halloween is celebrated in many places around the world. Children still dress as ghosts and spirits but Halloween costumes can now be anything from super heroes to fairies its more about the dressing up and less about spirits crossing over. Many traditions have remained however, including the carving of the Halloween pumpkin, decorating and trick-or-treating for sweets.

Happy Samhain, All Hallows Eve & Halloween!

The Rubber Band Technique

The Rubber Band Technique

"Things do not change, we change." Henry David Thoreau

Since we get what we think about, talk about, focus on, say to ourselves and believe about ourselves, we first need to become aware of what we are thinking and saying on a regular basis.

Are you in the habit of putting yourself down? Are you constantly telling yourself that you are not good enough or havent done enough? Do you tell yourself that you are bad, stupid, or lazy on a regular basis? This behavior has to stop or you will just manifest more experiences that prove you are right. Negative self-talk is a self-fulfilling prophesy.

So, how do you stop the negative self-talk? How do you change your habitual behavior of putting yourself down? Simply deciding to stop the behavior is not always enough. You need a way to break your negative pattern.

I have used the Rubber Band Technique off and on for years to remind myself that I have decided to choose something new - a new behavior, a new thought, a new action or a new reaction.

So, how does the Rubber Band Technique work? Lets use the example of constantly putting yourself down. Youve decided to change that behavior, but find yourself falling back into that habit, time after time, because it is so automatic. It happens before you give it much thought. The secret is to catch yourself in the behavior and immediately choose something else.

Place a rubber band around your wrist, and every time you catch yourself putting yourself down, snap the rubber band and deliberately choose to replace the negative self-talk with a positive statement. The rubber band is a pattern breaker that gets your attention and reminds you that you are choosing a new behavior. It acts to snap you back into the present moment, so you can consciously choose a new behavior until that new behavior becomes your automatic response.

Heres a different example. Perhaps you are a complainer. How can you apply the Rubber Band Technique? Set an intention to catch yourself complaining. Every time you notice yourself engaging in that behavior, snap the rubber band and remind yourself that you are not willing to tolerate that kind of behavior any longer.

Here are other ways to apply The Rubber Band Technique.
Catch yourself eating standing up.
Catch yourself reaching for that second helping of food or dessert.
Catch yourself talking about someone behind their back.
Catch yourself swearing.
Catch yourself judging others.
Catch yourself driving over the speed limit.
Catch yourself yelling at bad drivers.
It is up to you to address your negative, and perhaps even destructive, habits. You do have a choice.

"They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself." Andy Warhol

Action Challenge

Steps to change a negative behavior.

1. Find a rubber band that fits loosely around your wrist.

2. Decide on the thoughts, words, behavior or action you want to change.

3. Decide what positive thoughts, words, behavior or action you are going to replace for the negative behavior.

4. Every time you find yourself engaging in the behavior you want to change, snap the rubber band, remind yourself that you have chosen a new behavior and immediately replace the old behavior with the new behavior.

"Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself." Leo Tolstoy

Once you are more aware of the negative thoughts, words, behaviors and actions you want to change, you need some positive behaviors to incorporate.

The Law of Attraction to Get Your Ex Back - Does It Work and Are You Using It Correctly

Can you use the law of attraction to get your ex back? I have seen many questions regarding how to get an ex back but this is a really interesting one. Ultimately, the law of attraction does work to bring you what you want, whether you want more wealth, health and happiness.
The question is, why is it that the law of attraction works for some people but not others? How can you effectively use the law of attraction to get your ex back.

In this article, I am going to give you my opinion on how to use it. I may be right or I may be wrong. While I am not an expert when it comes to using the law of attraction for getting ex back, I have indeed use it to achieve other things in life.

I believe that this law will always try to work in your advantage. The first thing to consider is to ask yourself, "Is this relationship worth saving in the first place?" If your ex has really decided to moved on and no longer wants to have anything to do with you, there is really no point in visualizing him/her coming back into your life. Instead, I would suggest that you ask yourself a few questions. Why is it that I want my ex back? How would I feel if I have the perfect relationship? Answer these questions honestly.

I believe the reasons you want your ex back is because subconciously, you believe that your relationship with your ex is the perfect one. When you are in a perfect relationship, you will obviously be extremely happy.

Therefore, a great way to use the law of attraction is to think about how you will feel once you are in a wonderful relationship. In fact, try to act as if you are now having the best relationship in the world. Something better may happen to you.

If your ex and you are really meant to be together, he/she will be attracted back into your life. If not, you may be surprised to find a much better partner. The Law of Attraction to Get Your Ex Back

The governments Making Home Affordable Program

The governments Making Home Affordable Program

(HAMP) released in March 2009 was designed to help homeowners modify mortgages and stay in their homes. While qualifications for HAMP seem pretty straight forward, the governments program appears to be failing.

While many borrowers have applied for HAMP, a very small portion of them seem to be getting the mortgage relief they had hoped for ending up in foreclosure or hiring a bankruptcy attorney. If you cant get a straight answer from your mortgage servicer or denied a loan modification without good reason you might want to consider alternate measures. Borrowers continue to complain about going round and round for months with no results, or stuck in a trial period with no permanent modification. The government encourages homeowners to try loan workouts directly with their lender and not hire an attorney. Its almost like telling someone to do youre their own brain surgery rather than go to a qualified physician.

So What Should You Do?
First things first! In order to get a HAMP loan modification youre required to pass the initial 5 question eligibility check, and most homeowners do. This Waterfall Process is what most homeowners are familiar with and see readily available. BUT, its really not as simple as qualifying for these 5 questions:

1. Is your home your primary residence?
2. Is the amount you owe on your first mortgage equal to or less than $729,750?
3. Are you having trouble paying your mortgage?
4. Did you get your current mortgage before January 1, 2009?
5. Is your payment on your first mortgage (including principal, interest, taxes, insurance and homeowner's association dues, if applicable) more than 31% of your current gross income?

While it might seem pretty simple to get a loan modification based on these 5 questions, theres a lot more to getting approved than meeting these simple criteria. Not only do you have to meet all Federal program guidelines, lenders require you also pass specific guidelines and tests, most importantly the NPV test. The NPV test is an extremely complex mathematical formula provided by the Treasury Department for the banks use to determine if its more profitable to modify the loan or foreclose on the property. In some cases they may even consider approving a HAFA short sale, but these have proven difficult to negotiate.
What Borrowers Really Need To Know

Each lender runs the NPV as the final determining factor for a loan modification approval or declination. This is where most homeowners are denied for modification. The Lender can use the Federal NPV model or change it to meet their specific requirements. Another words, make up their own rules as they go along. Its almost like a football referee moving to line you need to cross in order to get a first down. If you cannot pass the NPV you do not get a modification, its that simple! Many end up hiring a bankruptcy attorney to stop the foreclosure process or just walk away.

Through an independent third party bankruptcy attorneys now have access to the same decision models the Lender's use to determine if you are going to be approved for your loan modification or not. We are happy to provide this information to the public in an effort to help consumers determine the best route to take. If you pass the NPV test your chances for a loan modification would appear pretty good. Its still up to your lender to modify but at least this way you can make an informed decision. Consulting an attorney, preferably a bankruptcy attorney makes a lot of sense if you are declined. A bankruptcy attorney can see if you qualify for a Chapter 13 or Chapter 7 bankruptcy. While filing bankruptcy is presumed to be a last ditch effort to stop foreclosure, many use bankruptcy as a means to eliminate underwater 2nd mortgages. Additionally, a bankruptcy attorney can give you a clear cut path as to what type of bankruptcy to file, Chapter 7 or Chapter 13.

There has been a long list of borrowers either foreclosed on or waiting to be foreclosed on by Bank of America. The countrys largest bank has been under fire in recent months for its unfair business practices and lack of good faith with relation to modifying toxic mortgages and administration of the governments HAMP and HAFA programs. Additionally, Bank of America scooped up billions in Countrywide mortgages for pennies on the dollar and now it may be time to share the wealth.

The nations largest bank never froze foreclosures in 27 states including California and Nevada, and many of the banks customers in these states have been in line for a loan modification for well over a year now. Some making trial payments for a year while loan modifications are under endless review, only to find them denied and foreclosed on.

"Some of the nation's top trial lawyers have banned together and are secretly beating the banks. These are the lawyers who previously represented these very banks; the lawyers who -- for years -- have gone to Court and "ended the madness" for many clients; the lawyers who know their way around the courthouses better than anyone. Already, these lawyers have filed a mass joiner case in 2009 that remains pending against Bank of America (and Countrywide) and includes thousands of Californians. This case is now going national. These lawyers have invoked laws and procedures the banks were previously unaware of, and Bank of America is getting beat at their own game because of it. Two weeks ago, the Bank was forced to admit that it had been defrauding the government in foreclosing on mortgages nationwide. Furthermore, on October 4, 2010, the Honorable Manuel Real of the United States District Court called the Bank's primary argument "absurd" and kicked the Bank out of Federal Court. The case is now proceeding in the trial court, and the mass joiner of plaintiffs from around the Country is expanding. It may be that the Bank is unable to recover under any of their promissory notes, or that the Bank has made other errors that will cause other penalties to be levied against them. If you are a former or current Bank of America customer and feel that you might, or have information relating to similar issues with Bank of America (and Countrywide), or if you wish to discuss this action or have any questions concerning this Notice or your rights or interests with respect to these matters, please contact us today. http://www.800debtsettle.com/
